Dear Kenyans could you please help me

Posted By: Hud_Hud on: Saturday 20th February 2009

I am an English language student at university and I would really appreciate your help. I’m doing an essay on post-colonial countries that have kept English as a national language. It will only take up 5 minutes of your time and I would really appreciate your input. Just write down which option you would go for next to the question number please.

I am open to criticism because I want this to be accurately done and I hope that your answers reflect the analysis I made in my essay.

Unfortunately I have nothing to offer you except a huge thank-you!!

English

Answers to your questions:

1.No. English is a better language especially for learning in schools. There are many words used in science subjects that cannot really be translated in Kiswahili - they would have to invent those words first.

2. English - although I speak Kiswahili

3. I would not fully agree... it is a language that is commonly spoken in so many countries; how else would people communicate?

4. I would agree, again it is a common language

5. Strongly disagree. If the culture is being suppressed, it is not because of the language, it is due to other factors.

6. Strongly disagree. I would not agree at all.

7. Yes. And to a wide range of people - not just kenyans.
